FAQs

What exactly does The Watch Curators do?

It’s in the name: we help clients curate a personal watch collection that reflects who they are—their personality, taste, and personal branding. That means we don’t start with “what model are you looking for?” We start with a getting-to-know-you phase, then build a collection that becomes more coherent, intentional, and impactful over time. We’re in this for long-term relationships, not one-off transactions.

Are you a dealer, a broker, or an advisory service?

We are an advisory service provider that can also act as a dealer and a broker, depending on what’s best for the collector and the situation. In practice, we represent watch lovers and collectors who need support, discretion, and global access, and we execute on their behalf with clear alignment.

How do you source watches (and from where)?

Sourcing can take a few hours, a few days, a few weeks, or even months—it depends on the rarity of the request and how tight the specifications are.

We have access to thousands of established pre-owned watch dealers worldwide, and we’re disciplined about working only with sources we consider trustworthy. Every opportunity goes through proper due diligence—both on the seller and on the watch—so clients get a level of peace of mind that’s hard to find in the secondary market.

In some cases, we can also source directly from private collectors, especially when we know (or can reliably identify) who holds a specific piece in their collection.

What kinds of watches can you source?

Pretty much any luxury watch—from highly liquid “mainstream” pieces to rare, collector-grade references—depending on availability and the realism of the request. If it exists in the market, we can usually find a path to it (and if we don’t like the path, we won’t force it).

How long does sourcing typically take?

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer—and anyone who gives you one is usually oversimplifying.

The timeline depends on the complexity of the hunt, including:

  • rarity and production volume
  • spec strictness (year, dial, metal, bracelet, etc.)
  • market liquidity and current demand
  • your flexibility on condition, set completeness, and price
  • timing (seasonality, auction cycles, collector activity)

Our job is to be transparent about what’s realistic, keep momentum where possible, and stay patient where patience is the price of getting it right.

Do you require a deposit to start sourcing?

Yes. We require a deposit of approximately 10% of the estimated acquisition price to begin sourcing.

Once we locate the right timepiece and complete the due diligence, we ask for the remaining payment so we can arrange pick-up and delivery.

Depending on the complexity of the request and the price point, we charge a sourcing fee ranging from 10% to 15% of the acquisition price.

Shipping and logistics are charged at cost—we don’t add a premium to those.

How do you authenticate and verify condition?

We treat authentication and condition assessment as a process, not a checkbox—because that’s how collectors avoid expensive regret.

Depending on the watch and the situation, our due diligence can include:

  • Serial/reference verification and consistency checks
  • Movement checks (where possible/appropriate) to confirm correct caliber and overall integrity
  • For vintage pieces: dial/hands originality assessment, with special attention to refinishing, replacement parts, and period-correct details
  • Case condition evaluation, including over-polishing risk, geometry, edges, and finishing integrity
  • Review of service history when available, and what that implies for near-term servicing needs
  • Paperwork validation and cross-checking of documents where applicable

We also have access to multiple databases and a trusted network of independent watchmakers who can physically inspect watches when needed.

Most importantly: if we have any meaningful doubt about a watch, we walk away. We’d rather lose a deal than compromise trust.

Do you buy watches from clients (or take trades)?

Sometimes. We may make a purchase offer to a client when we are sourcing that exact watch for another client.

For clients looking to sell, we can also take watches on consignment, and we’ll agree together on the process, pricing logic, and go-to-market plan.

Trade-ins are possible as well, but they’re handled case-by-case depending on the watch, liquidity, and the structure of the deal.

Can you help me sell a watch (consignment or private sale)?

Yes-often we can-but it depends on practical criteria such as: which watch it is, condition, value level, and whether it comes as a complete set.

If we take your watch on consignment, we agree on a floor price—a number under which we will not sell. We can recommend a floor based on market reality, but the final decision is yours.

Once the floor is agreed, we promote the watch through our network and channels. Our commission is a flat 10% of the final selling price.

How do you price your watches / source offers?

We price using live market intelligence—not guesswork.

We have access to multiple dealers-only networks and groups where market-making conversations happen daily, and where virtually any watch can surface. We also stay current through auction results and other reputable online platforms.

That combination helps us stay accurate on real-world pricing: not just “asking prices,” but what pieces are actually trading for, in the condition and configuration that matters.

What are your fees or margins, and how transparent are they?

Our advisory—helping you think through direction, taste, and strategy—is free of charge.

When we source a timepiece on your behalf, we invoice a 10% to 15% commission on our cost of acquisition (depending on the request complexity and price point).

When we take a watch on consignment, we charge a flat 10% fee on the final selling price (which must be equal to or above the agreed floor price).

No games, no vague “market adjustments”—we keep it simple and clear.

Do you ship internationally? Who handles customs and insurance?

Yes, we ship internationally—and we do not profit from shipping or logistics costs.

Our preferred approach is working with professional specialist providers such as Ferrari Logistics or Veron Grauer, who can manage customs and insurance properly on behalf of the client.

Depending on the destination, value, and timeline, we can also consider alternatives such as hand delivery or international couriers like DHL or FedEx.

What payment methods do you accept?

In most cases, we accept wire transfers, following a thorough KYC (Know Your Customer) process.

We can sometimes accept cash, but only in the UAE—and the KYC formality remains a must in all cases. This protects everyone involved and keeps transactions clean, compliant, and professional.

Can you help me build a collection strategy (not just source one watch)?

Yes—and this is where we’re most valuable.

Whether you want one meaningful watch or a complete collection architecture, we act as a long-term partner to help you make decisions that hold up over time. That can include:

  • defining collecting goals (identity, purpose, milestones, lifestyle fit)
  • building a coherent “rotation” (daily, travel, dress, sport, statement)
  • smart budget allocation (where to concentrate vs. where to stay flexible)
  • reducing overlap (so each piece earns its place)
  • planning exits (when to sell, what to keep, and why)

The outcome isn’t “more watches.” It’s a better collection.
