Pascal Coyon Chronomètre Calibre 19
Pascal Coyon belongs to a new wave of French independent watchmakers who combine traditional know-how with a deeply personal vision. Trained in Morteau, he first built his reputation restoring clocks and watches in Bayonne before deciding to create a timepiece of his own. His ambition was clear: to unite the timeless beauty of classical chronometers with the uncompromising finishing standards of haute horlogerie, all within his own workshop.
His first prototype, which took more than 16 months to complete, was based on a Unitas 6498 architecture inspired by early 20th-century pocket watches, but was extensively reworked to reflect Coyon’s philosophy. This led to his inaugural Chronomètre Series 1, a limited edition of just 60 pieces (20 in rose finish, 20 in gold, 20 in rhodium), each tested and certified by the Besançon Observatory — an institution that certifies fewer than 300 watches annually.
The success of this first series paved the way for the more ambitious Series 2 and the creation of the Calibre 19.
Calibre 19 & Watchmaking
Coyon’s signature movement, the Calibre 19, is a hand-wound calibre oscillating at 18,000 vibrations per hour. Drawing on the aesthetics of classical pocket-watch construction, it has been completely reimagined and finished to the highest standards: Geneva stripes, hand-executed anglage, perlage, and black-polished steel.
Each movement undergoes a rigorous 16-day chronometer test at the Besançon Observatory, ensuring both precision and provenance.
Production remains exceptionally limited — Coyon personally handles polishing, beveling, assembly, and regulation (often assisted by his daughter), resulting in no more than 10 to 12 watches per year, with waiting times stretching 30 to 36 months or more.
This Specific Example
The watch presented here is more than a timekeeper; it is the embodiment of Coyon’s philosophy — personal, precise, and rare. Featuring the observatory-certified Calibre 19 and Coyon’s hallmark hand-finishing, it is distinguished further by its Eastern Arabic numerals, a detail found on fewer than eight of his watches to date.
Cased in stainless steel, the watch is offered as a complete set with its original Besançon Observatory certificate, confirming its testing at the end of 2023.
Originally ordered in October 2021 and delivered in April 2024, this unique creation is now available on consignment.
A true collector’s opportunity: a rare piece from one of France’s most promising independent watchmakers, embodying both artisanal craft and exclusivity.
